The essentials

The four building blocks of a natal chart

“What, how, where and with whom.”

Every interpretation combines four questions. Planets say which part of you is acting (mind, affection, will). Signs say how it acts. Houses say in which area of life. Aspects say which other parts it talks to, smoothly or with tension.

A phrase like "Venus in Cancer in the 10th house, trine Saturn" reads: your way of loving and valuing (Venus) is protective and emotional (Cancer), shows up in your career and public image (10th house) and is supported by consistency and responsibility (trine Saturn).

  • Planet = which psychological function
  • Sign = how it expresses itself
  • House = in which area of life
  • Aspect = how it relates to other planets

How to read your natal chart in 6 steps

From the general to the specific, so you do not get lost in the details.

  1. 1

    Start with the big three

Sun (identity and purpose), Moon (emotions and needs) and rising sign (how you show up and start things). Together they give the basic portrait.

  2. 2

Check the balance of elements and modalities

Count your planets in fire, earth, air and water, and in cardinal, fixed and mutable signs. What abounds and what is missing defines your temperament.

  3. 3

    Find your chart ruler

It is the planet ruling your rising sign (for example, Mars for Aries rising). Its sign, house and aspects color the whole chart.

  4. 4

    Read the planets by house

Houses with several planets are leading areas of your life. Empty houses are not "bad": they are read through their ruler.

  5. 5

    Interpret the main aspects

Start with the tightest aspects (smallest orb) and those touching the Sun, Moon and ascendant.

  6. 6

    Synthesize

Look for repeating themes. If three indicators point the same way, it is a core trait; if they contradict, they describe an inner tension to integrate.

Reading a natal chart: FAQ

Common questions when you start reading a chart.

The big three (Sun, Moon and rising sign), the chart ruler and the tightest aspects. That already gives a fairly accurate portrait.

Nothing negative. It is simply not an area of special focus. It is read through the sign on its cusp and the position of its ruling planet.

No. They signal tension, but that tension creates motivation and growth. Many high achievers have charts with strong squares.

A planet that, seen from Earth, appeared to move backwards when you were born. It is usually read as a more introspective energy, or one that develops in a less conventional way.

Yes. On Aspectados the AI receives your exact positions and explains each piece following this same method, answering your questions about any planet, house or aspect.
